Dublin Gas Prices Continue to Rise

A report released Tuesday said the state average for gas is $3.91 per gallon.

It's likely been three years since you've seen gas prices this high.

According to AAA, the gas prices consumers are paying today haven't been seen since 2008.

"We raised the prices just yesterday," said a Dublin gas station employee who did not want to be named. "I drive in from Tracy and I couldn't believe it was even more than $4 there."

Gas prices rose Tuesday for the 14th straight day and the average in some parts of the United States is now $3.51 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to a daily survey by the American Automobile Association.

"I've definitely seen less people filling up," said Fitzgerald Morris, who worked Tuesday at a Dublin Shell station for a promotions company selling cleaning wax.

"People say they're just filling up with whatever they can afford, maybe$10, maybe $15," he said.

California has the highest state average gas price. A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.91, up 50 cents since last month's report on Feb. 8.

“Largely due to unrest in the Middle East, investors have been willing to speculate that prices will increase further and that they will be able to make a profit on the product they are purchasing today. As a result, oil and gasoline prices have moved significantly higher,” explained AAA Northern California spokesperson Matt Skryja.

“Until this uncertainty is removed from the market, we can expect both crude oil and gasoline prices to continue to rise in the coming days and weeks,” he added.

Prices also vary widely by state because of differing gas tax amounts. AAA said the least expensive average price in Northern California is in Modesto at $3.84. Eureka has the highest average price at $4.06.
