Legos Take Center Stage at School Board Meeting

Team TeknoBotz of Fallon Middle School was honored at Tuesday night's school board meeting.

Legos stole the show at Tuesday evening's school board meeting. But they were anything but ordinary Legos.

Students from presented their robot creation, made out of legos, to board members.

"It's fascinating to see how our students are utilizing very important skills," said Superintendent Stephen Hanke.

Fallon’s student robot team, Team TeknoBotz, was recognized for its success in recent competitions.

Led by teacher Joy Chien, TeknoBotz placed first in robot design and third in robot performance at the first Lego League competition late last year. The team advanced to the regional tournament. It placed sixth this year in robot performance out of 36 teams and qualified to compete at the FLL Nor Cal Championship in Newark in January. For the results of that competition, click here.

The board congratulated the seventh-grade team members: Goutham Marimuthu, Kana Mishra, Nithin Kumar, Nilla Sivakumar and Neha Rajkumar.

The board received information on the Special Education Program Development. Angelica Thomas, director of Special Education, noted that API scores for students with disabilities in the district have increased from 584 in the 2005 school year to 644 in 2009.
