Boy With Rare Brain Tumor Celebrates Ninth Birthday

The school and community celebrated Sirous Sadaghiani's birthday complete with superheros, a quilt and donations.

A Dublin boy who has been battling a rare brain tumor called gliomatosis cerebri since the fall of 2012 just celebrated his ninth birthday this past May. Sirous Sadaghiani and his twin sister, Sima, celebrated their birthdays at a party thrown by the Extended Day Child Care Company at John Green Elementary in Dublin.

According to Irene Padnos, many Dublin families attended the super hero-themed party, which included games and healthy foods.

Colleen Pearson, the mother who also started the "White Ribbons for Peace and Hope" movement in Dublin last year, created a quilt for Sirous. The quilt was made out of squares representing each class at John Green Elementary. Families were also able to purchase additional squares to decorate to add to the quilt and the money raised was donated to the Sadaghiani family.

Kiana Meagher, 13, a seventh grader at Well Middle School, who did not know Sirous personally, heard about his fight for life and decided to help his family.

Tom Meagher, Kiana's father, says his that for his daughter's thirteenth birthday party in March, she asked her friends to help Sirous as a gift to her.

"Kiana asked her friends to make a donation to Sirous instead of buying her a birthday present," Meagher said. "The generosity of her friends and their families resulted in a donation of $800 to help him and his family. Needless to say, we are very proud of Kiana."

Sirous' father, Reza Sadaghiani, says May was a very busy month for Sirous. Sadaghiani told Patch, via email:

"He is going through treatment radiation and so far the response has been positive as he may be gaining his mobility to walk again. Currently the cancer in the brain tumor has infiltrated to his spine and the radiation is intended to stop it and may be minimize the damage to his functionality.

Sadaghiani added that the birthday party at the Elementary Extended Day Child Care Company was hosted by the director, Carole and her staff.

"Carole, along with her wonderful staff, did an amazing job for Sirous and his sister, Sima," Sadaghiani wrote. "The quilt was a beautiful one with blocks of  wonderful well-wishes for Sirous."
