Did You Hear the Boom Sounds in the Tri-Valley?

Sounds of explosions Wednesday startled residents.

If you heard loud booming sounds in the Tri-Valley yesterday, you were not alone. Numerous residents from Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin, possibly more on edge after the Boston Marathon attack on Monday, all reported hearing "booms" throughout the day and evening.

Two particularly loud blasts were heard around 8 p.m, which some concerned residents reported hearing at the Pleasanton Sports Park.

According to Alameda County Sheriff's spokesperson Sergeant J.D. Nelson, the booming sounds were from a training session at the Alameda County Sheriff's bomb range in Dublin.

"The daytime explosions were for the FBI school, and the nighttime ones were a bomb squad demonstration for the Dublin Citizen's Academy," Nelson said. "(Detonating) cord and slurry explosive, which are both highly explosive, were used for the nighttime demonstration."
