Perhaps this was all meant as a horribly misguided homage to Vincent van Gogh. In the days to come,Read More we may read of a lucky lady—or gent—receiving a parcel containing the rapper’s severed appendage and a note inscribed with the words: “Take it, it will be useful.”

I own a small business in Woodridge IL. The amount of credit card fraud has here has increased tenRead More fold over last year. I have to tell you that the card owner doesn't get burned, the card issuer don't either, nor does the company you hire to process and approve the cards. It's the local merchant where the card was used. Online ordering is the worst. The big banks say you didn't swipe a card, so you're liable, even though it was approved by that same bank at the time of purchase. If this keeps up, I'll have to go backwards in time and shut down online ordering. So much for a cashless society.

I think I will go back to using checks at stores and cash at gas stations. I found a gas station inRead More Eagle Rock that gives a discount for using cash and generally buy my gas there. Not as convenient as using a debit card but I had to cancel my card after using it at Target right before Christmas. What a hassle.

I fail to see what this guy's race or politicial affiliation has to do with what he did. He looksRead More white to me (so the "third-world" comment doesn't make sense), and the "Obozocare" comment is absolutely ridiculous. You can blame the video games, but this guy had an underlying reason for what he did. You have to have a lot of patience to deal with a baby. They cry. They screw up your life if you really haven't grown up. I was appalled that he is being charged with third-degree murder, but I don't think he meant to kill his son. He just wasn't mature enough to be a father.
tamarya April 19, 2014 at 09:33 am
Well pam that is where i was getting with my comment. Time people grow the hell up! There is noRead More reason a 24 yr old MAN should be too immature to raise a baby. Start teaching these young adults to be young adults, not 2 yr old babies. In high school is where it can start.

Far from bitter ex. Just stating very well known facts about the Worthingtons. This ear eater wasRead More also just in the news for assaulting his girlfriend and his brother for manufacturing crystal meth. And for the father, he was known for getting lucky with his young staff while his wife was at home. Shockingly he is now divorced but still sleeping with his salon staff. The salon even made the news this week for employing a massage therapist arrested for inappropriate fondling. It's time the community stop turning a blind eye because daddy has money.

Maybe he'll be out in 5 years, but on the other hand these are very precious 5 years for a youngRead More person. The high school classmates that he graduated with last June have moved on with their lives, while he has been stuck in jail. They're now in colleges throughout the country bettering themselves for a career, or gotten jobs, or maybe joined the military and are seeing the world. Meanwhile, Cody is going to be stuck in the slow lane for the next 5 or so years. When he does get out, he'll be a jobless +23 year old felon with a high school degree, while most of his classmates will have graduated from college and embarking on their careers. So it's difficult not to sympathize a little with his situation even though he brought it all on himself. I hope that he comes out of jail a better person than when he went in.
JoAnne Norman April 18, 2014 at 02:10 pm

My dad will be without the love of his life, me and my sister without our mom and my 2 wonderful kids without their grandma. We miss her everyday and every hour. It never gets easier... We just just get used to it.

Authors and supporters of the Dublin Open Space Initiative of 2014 stand with signs supporting the initiative and the petitions to be submitted to the City.
Morgan King Sr. April 17, 2014 at 11:15 pm
There is much to be said about the respective competing initiatives, Let Dublin Decide, and DublinRead More Open Space Initiative of 2014. But what I want to discuss here is the notion that if Dublin doesn't grab Doolan Canyon and develop it, Livermore will, and Livermore has already taken the first steps to annex the area into the Livermore city boundary. The fact that Livermore has applied to LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission) to annex the property is being used as a scare tactic by the promoters' of the "Let Dublin Decide" initiative. However, a look at the actual public records shows that Livermore's motive in annexing the land is to preserve it as open space and agricultural land, not development. In contrast, Dublin has approached LAFCO to annex the area and build residences on it. The minutes of the 09/12/2011 Livermore City Council meeting at which the application to LAFCO to bring the property within Livermore's ambit was approved, make it clear the purpose is preservation of open space. The Livermore staff report of the same date, to the Council urged the Council to take steps to preserve the area. Livermore's actual application for annexation, filed with LAFCO on 09/14/2011, states as its purpose the preservation of Doolan Canyon and associated parcels, as open space. The LAFCO staff report dated 11/03/11 to the LAFCO board on the issue makes it clear that the purpose behind Livermore's application is to preserve it as open space. Several years ago the Livermore City Council adopted an initiative (almost identical to the current Dublin Open Space Initiative of 2014, which is promoted by Dublin residents with no monetary gain expected - to preserve the area as open space. The Livermore initiative, which is now law that can only be changed by a vote of Livermore's electorate, provides that any attempt by Livermore to annex the land for anything other than open space / agriculture, must be approved by Livermore voters. Accordingly, the scare tactic that Livermore will grab the land to annex it for development is disingenuous, if not an outright lie. The fact is, the real threat to Doolan Canyon is from Dublin, not Livermore; Dublin does not yet have a voter-control mechanism. Hence, three votes on the City Council control the fate of Doolan Canyon. By contrast, the Dublin Open Space Initiative of 2014 does exactly that. Our initiative is the only way that Dublin voters have control to decide what happens to the entire area (notice that the developers' initiative is called the "Let Dublin Decide" measure, and does not contain the word "voters."). That initiative leaves control of the 40% area in the hands of the Dublin City Council, not Dublin's voters. - Morgan King, a co-author of the Dublin Open Space Initiative of 2014 (with Dave Bewley).
