How Your Teenager Can Find a Job This Summer

School's out. Time to earn some pocket money. Here's where to look for summer jobs in the Tri-Valley and beyond.

Paper rounds and babysitting gigs are respectable jobs for teenagers during the school year, helping them earn a little extra cash for weekend activities. But summer is the prime time to amp up earning opportunities and save some serious dough.

There are plenty of opportunities in and around Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore, if you know where to look, from local restaurants to retail stores and more.

One way to approach the job hunt is to go "old school" and send your teen around town so drop off resumes and fill out applications at local businesses. Here are some tips for teenagers from About.com on how to put together a resume.

But more and more opportunities are being posted online, and even allow for online applications. SnagAJob.com has a "teen job search" function that finds jobs suitable for a certain age range. Just sign up for an account, input your birthday and get searching.

Opportunities for teens in the Tri-Valley:

Car Washers: Vehicle Washers * Full-time position $8.50/hour
Pizza: ***Mountain Mikes Pizza**PLEASANTON {{Hiring Driver and Pizza Chef }}
Festival Helper: Festival help
Swimming Lessons: Water Safety Instructor

It's important to know that federal law allows minors to work from the age of 14, but California stipulates that anyone under the age of 18 must obtain a work permit. Once an employer has agreed to hire a minor, the teen's school must complete a form titled, "Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit".
