Little Love Notes Leave Behind Big Impressions

Paying it forward through random love notes can sometimes surprise us in the most funny little ways.

This morning I was surprised with a note form my husband telling me how much he loved me. It was on a post-it note on the cabinet where I go to get my coffee mug as I'm helping the kids get ready for school.

As I'm grinding the coffee beans, pouring the grounds into my French press and expediting the kids to finish up their breakfast, I sat there smiling at this little note.

It wasn't a special occasion, my birthday or Valentine's Day. It was "just because." After I was done, I texted my husband that I loved him and that the note made my day.

My son, who gets up before everyone in a mad rush to finish his business before my girls get up and hoard the bathroom glanced over into the kitchen and saw his dad doing something. Sleepy-eyed and still tired from Daylight Savings Time, he then walked back into his room and finished getting dressed.

After my husband left, he told me he went into the kitchen to see what his dad left on the cabinet door. He saw the note and decided that he wanted to make one of his own -- for mom and dad. He used another post-it note, similar to the one his dad left but a different shape, and wrote on it. He left it on our door where I saw it after I grabbed my shoes and exited.

This random little act that started "just because" left an impression on my son and he wanted to show us how much he loved us.

Leaving behind notes like this may seem small and sometimes may not even cross your mind in the busy of morning. My husband didn't even know it, but he was showing my son other ways to love. In return, he passed it back to us!

After my kids are done making their lunches for school, I sometimes sneak little notes in their bags. A fun template I've used (when I don't have a sticky note or small piece of paper) is here. For love notes, I like these.

If you can't find a printable, leaving a note on the back of scratch paper never bothers anyone. It's the thought that counts and makes all the difference.
