Dublin's NEW Farmer's Market - The Benefits of Signing up for CSA

Thinking of signing up for a CSA program? Check out the benefits of why you should.

Farmer's Markets are filled with local seasonal produce, great local food, organic local finds, and other local vendors, all while you snack on freshly popped kettle corn and bop your head to local talent on stage. Now that Dublin has a Farmer's Market, here is something to ponder as you replay the word local in your head once more:

The idea of joining Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA program. The concept of this program is a specific local farmer selects items from their season and you buy a 'subscription' to which you would get a box of selected items on a weekly basis and pick up your box at the farm you bought your subscription from. You would not only be supporting your local farmers but also get to know who grows your food. On the flip side, farmers get the early cash flow from the subscription fees pre-season, which will help tend to their harvest as well as get to know who buys their food. Some farms will even let you pick out your own food. Other items such as bread, eggs, and fresh cut flowers are offered in some CSA boxes, opening up new ventures to our local services.

Terra Bella Farms from Pleasanton is offering a CSA and can be found at the Farmer's Market in Dublin as well as other Farmer's Markets in the Bay Area. I got a chance to learn more about CSA's through them when I visited their stand and the importance of what a program like this can do for our community and well being.
