Dublin High Loses Shillelagh, Reclaims 'All Sports Trophy'

Dougherty Valley can keep the shillelagh for now because Dublin High is walking tall with the "All Sports Trophy" for an entire year.

The disappointment of losing the coveted shillelagh can't be denied by Dublin High, when the Gaels' football team lost 34-27 to Dougherty Valley High on Oct. 4 during the "Battle of the Shillelagh." There is no shame such a loss, though, as the team "played their hearts out," according to "Cyber" Stacey Maloney's DHS Athletics newsletter.

Moving on from the tragic loss of the shillelagh, Dublin High Athletic Director Jim Bosker says that after two years of the "All Sports Trophy" residing at rival school, Dougherty Valley High in San Ramon, Dublin High has the sought-after cup safely back on school grounds for a year.

Not too shabby for a consolation prize.

"The trophy is awarded to the school that has the most varsity wins over the other," Bosker said.

Bosker says that tally for the year includes all of the varsity teams at the high school. Dublin High had the trophy for 2009-2010, then it went to Dougherty Valley from 2010 through 2012.

According to the DHS Athletics newsletter, trophy was on display on the field during the last football game.
