Video: Fallon Middle School Cheerleaders the Best

Cheerleaders at Fallon took first place in their division at USA Nationals in Disneyland.

The cheerleaders at  were big winners at the Happiest Place on Earth last weekend when they took first place in their division at USA Nationals  in Disneyland.

Coach Colleen Carrion recently stepped in to take over the Fallon Middle School team (former coach Kristine Cousins now coaches at Dublin High) with assistants Diane Mouser and Mia Teetsel. Under their leadership, the Mustangs qualified at all three regional competitions this season for nationals.

In the Disneyland performances, the team competed against 10 other schools and had the highest score — 90.8 — in the morning preliminaries. The Mustangs competed in the finals against two other teams.

In addition to Fallon Middle School's competition team, there is a sideline program that, just like  is “inclusive." Cousins started it at the school four years ago so that all students — boys and girls — who want to provide spirit for their schoolmates, who keep up their grades and are “leaders” in and out of uniform, can be on the team.

Last year, in their third season, the Mustangs went to their second USA National Cheerleading Competition and took first place in their division. The team also was named “Grand National Champions” for having the highest overall score of all first-place teams.
