Valley High School Recognized as a Model Continuation School

Valley High School made the list of 27 outstanding continuation high schools throughout the state named today.

Valley High School is one of 27 California schools recognized Friday by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell as a 2011 Model Continuation High School.

The announcement said the school received the honor for its programs designed to help struggling students stay in school.

"These schools create a culture of learning for and provide educational continuity for students whose lives have been challenged," said O'Connell.

Out of 35 schools that applied for the recognition, 33 were approved for site visits. A review team visited the schools and recommended 27 for model school status, including Valley High.

Valley High will keep their title for three years and must submit an annual assurance of compliance with model school guidelines in order to maintain the designation.

There are a total of 53 Model Continuation High Schools in the state.
