Sixth Grader Selling Bracelets to Benefit 8-Year-Old Friend with Brain Tumor

The bracelets will be available before and after school at John Green Elementary on Friday, Feb. 8

Ryan McCorriston, 11, a sixth grader at Fallon Middle School in Dublin, has started selling blue wristbands to raise money in support of eight-year-old Sirous Sadaghiani, who is battling a malignant brain tumor.

Ryan is friends with Sirous' older brother, Zachary, and the two attend Fallon together.

According to Ryan's mom, Susan McCorriston, the "Stay Strong Sirous" wristbands have been on sale at Fallon Middle School since last week and will be available before and after school at John Green Elementary on Friday, Feb. 8.

McCorriston says Ryan used his savings to order 1,000 of the blue bracelets (blue is Sirous' favorite color) and is selling each bracelet for $5. She says Ryan's goal to raise a close to $5,000.

"He's received support and encouragement from both school principals, members of both PFC's and Reza Sadaghiani for selling them. Ryan was intent on finding a way to help the family as his friend Zachary is Sirous' older brother. Ryan came home one day a few weeks ago and said he wanted to help the family somehow. We talked over what he might be able to do and he came up with the wristbands as a way of 'wearing support for Sirous as a constant reminder that he's in our thoughts'."

John Green Elementary Principal Keith Nomura says that the bracelets are a nice way to show solidarity for Sirous.

"Ryan was a student here last year and his younger brother is also a student here," said Nomura, "He [Ryan], on his own, wanted to do something for his friend, Sirous. We thought it was a good opportunity to help Ryan get exposure."

A Facebook page has been set up for the wristband fundraiser.
