School District Appoints Interim Assistant Superintendent

Dave Marken, former assistant superintendent in Dublin, accepted a job in Newark as superintendent.

Following the board meeting Tuesday night, the  board of trustees held a special meeting and appointed Tim McCarty to serve as interim assistant superintendent. 

Dave Marken, former assistant superintendent of the , said Monday that he has  of superintendent of the Newark Unified School District.

McCarty is no stranger to Dublin. He and his wife are Dublin residents and McCarty worked in the Dublin district from 2004 to 2008 as the director of technology.

Most recently, he served as superintendent for the Eureka Union School District in Northern California. According to a press release issued by the district in February, McCarty resigned from the position "as the result of a mutual agreement with the board."

His contract with the Dublin district begins Friday.

"I'm thrilled to be here," McCarty told members of the board.

Superintendent Stephen Hanke introduced McCarty at the meeting.

"We look forward to having him join the district."

In an  earlier this week, Marken said that while he is excited about the new opportunity, it won't be easy to leave. He has been with the district for nearly 14 years in various roles.

Marken was not at Tuesday evening's board meeting; he was being introduced to the community at the Newark Unified School District meeting.
