Relay for Life Coming To Wells Middle School

Have you seen the purple ribbons around town?

You may have seen the purple ribbons while driving around Dublin and wondered what they symbolize. If you look closer, you will see they are a sign that the Relay for Life race is coming to town.

Relay for Life is a fundraiser that raises money for cancer and cancer research. It will be in Dublin at on Saturday, May 19.

According to the Relay for Life website, the race was started in 1985 by Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon.

The site reads, "Relay For Life is a life-changing event that helps communities across the globe celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease."

The 24-hour event, which includes a "survivors lap, a luminaria ceremony and a fight back ceremony," will take place at beginning at 9 a.m.

According to Tammy Goldstein, there will be fireworks for the event at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
