Meet Teacher Aaron McNeal

From the MLB to the NFL, former players have made Valley Christian Schools their stomping ground. Aaron McNeal joins VCS from the Houston Astros as its dean of students.

Former MLB player Aaron McNeal joined Valley Christian High School's teaching staff three years ago.  Since that time, he has taken on the roles of dean of students, head baseball coach, and Valley Christian Center's youth pastor.  As the school year begins, Dublin Patch asked him some important questions.

Patch: How long have you been teaching and coaching?

 McNeal: Nine years.

Patch: What do you like about the grade levels you work with (7-12)?

McNeal: The potential they have.  What they will become is very exciting to me.

Patch: What do you do outside of your school activities?

McNeal: I play with my two young boys, Josiah and Elijah,  and enjoy spending time with my wife and doing family things.

Patch: Have you done anything new for this school year?

McNeal: We redid the student handbook (dress code, policy, procedures, etc.).  The school is focusing on more outreach into the city (Dublin), and focusing on more relationship-building among the students. We have also started a High School Bible study.

Patch:  How do you encourage your students?

McNeal: Good question. I try to build up the area they are gifted in. Applaud the good and encourage their strengths.  I remind them not to hold back or listen to the negative.

Patch: Any advice to parents?

McNeal:  Celebrate the victories in your kids' lives.  Don't harp on the negative, rejoice in the positive.  Your kid needs a parent, not a friend. Valley Christian Center will be doing an entire series focusing on the family soon.
