Enjoy Some Music of the Holiday Season

Be sure to save time this week for two very special musical performances at Dublin High.

If you need a little help getting into the holiday spirit you may want to attend one or both of the Holiday Concerts going on in the Little Theatre at  this week.

On Monday, Dec. 13th at 7p.m. come out for a night of percussion and jazz. You will enjoy the newly formed Dublin High School Percussion Ensemble performing four different pieces all for percussion instruments including two from Charlie Brown's Christmas.

Next will be the newly formed student driven Jazz Combo.  All of these instrumentalist are in the jazz band. The evening will end with two different jazz ensembles, the Red and the Blue, who will perform a variety of jazz music including swing, funk, and latin.

Then on Tuesday, Dec. 14th at 7p.m. you can come listen to the choir and concert band. The choir will sing a variety of secular and sacred songs. The band will perform some interesting pieces including "I Am" which is what composers would call a programmatic composition. A programmatic composition is one which tells a story.  "I Am" was composed in memory of a Prairie High School Band student from Cedar Rapids, Iowa who died tragicallly in a car accident. This piece will take listeners through the boy's life.

They will also play Alfred Reed's  "Russian Christmas Music". This piece spotlights Russian folk music as it was heard in pre-communist Russia. Tuesday night's concert will end with KGO News Host Bret Burkhart reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" while accompanied by the DHS band followed by some Christmas Carols.

There is no cost of admission for either of these special nights of music. However, on both nights the Dublin High School Music Program will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to benefit the Toys for Tots organization.

Why not come out and support some students who have worked very hard to create a memorable holiday musical experience and while bringing the joy of a toy into a child's life, as well?
