Dublin Students Participate in Revolutionary War Reenactment

Eighth grade student at Wells Middle School participated in a Revolutionary War reenactment outdoors.

The Revoluntionary War came alive at as reenactment professional Roy Wells' presentation brought uniforms, rifles, muskets, historical supplies and furnishings from the period with him last week.

All eighth grade students attended the program held outdoors during their history class. An interactive presentation, student volunteers became part of the history as they were dressed in the uniforms of the British Regulars, the Militia and the American soldier. Beginning with the Boston Tea Party, students learned about the gear each solider had to carry, the medicine and medical procedures available, an Officer's Flag and how war was conducted. Students received a bountiful of information which captured their imagination and attention.

A former US Air Force officer and Military Historian, Wells concluded his presentation with the firing of a Revoluntionary War period flintlock, loaded with blanks. As the sound echoed across the track and fields, one could imagine the sound of hundreds of such weapons rolling across the valleys filled with soldiers in battle.

History Department Chair, Charlie Belveal said, " Mr. Wells has the extraordinary ability to bring history to life in a way the students can appreciate."
