Dublin School Board Approve Plan to Add Portable Classrooms

Portable classrooms to be installed at John Green, H.W. Kolb and Dougherty elementary schools.

Dublin school district trustees on Tuesday approved a plan to add portables at several campuses in the city's growing east side.

John Green Elementary School and H.W. Kolb Elementary School will each get an additional six portables beginning next school year. In addition, up to six portables will be constructed at Dougherty Elementary for the 2014-2015 school year.

Officials say the portables will help alleviate overcrowding issues at the schools.

A new school, J.M. Amador Elementary, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015 to accommodate the growth in the area.

Portables at campuses are expected to be removed once the new campus is open to students.

Meanwhile, school officials are working with the principals at John Green and H.W. Kolb elementary schools to put together a team of parents, teachers, support staff and district and city resource staff.

The team will work on developing a plan to be followed next year that insures safety of students, insures appropriate supervision of campus and insures functionality of school is maintained, Hanke said.
