Would You Rather Have Commercial or Residential Units on This East Dublin Land?

The Dublin City Council is considering having a study to look at changing the land use of 39 acres, between Tassajara Road and Brannigan Street, from commercial to residential. What do you think?

The Dublin City Council is expected to make a decision soon on if there should be a study to evaluate a proposal to change the land use of about 39 acres between Tassajara Road and Brannigan Street from commercial to residential.

The land is currently owned by Dublin Land Company (DiManto Property), but is looking sell the property to SummerHill Homes, a home builder based in San Ramon.

SummerHill Homes would like to build 303, two-story detached homes on the property. Currently, the city has the land set for 151 homes and 425,000 square feet of commercial property.

The City Council first deliberated the issue at its March 5 meeting (which you can watch here) and could make a decision to have a study on the proposed land use change some time in May.

Councilmember Abe Gupta, who recently joined the council in February, said he lives in the area and is against the land use change.

"From what I have heard and feel is that it does not make sense to put houses there," Gupta said. "We already have a lot of houses in the area, but there aren't a lot of services nearby. The plan is to have nice shopping center, which I think would be better for the community."

Mayor Tim Sbranti has recused himself from this issue because he owns property in the area.
