With property tax bills arriving in the mail this month, Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) is reminding its residential sewer customers where they can find their annual charge for sewer service. Customers owning single-family homes, townhouses, condos, or duplexes will find "DSRSD SEWER SVC" on their property tax bill under Assessments.
This once-a-year charge covers collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater. For a single-family home, the charge is $362.52—about $30 a month. On average, a single-family home produces 294.3 gallons of wastewater a day, which adds up to more than 107,000 gallons in a year.
Newly constructed homes may temporarily receive a bimonthly bill for sewer service until the charge is transferred to the tax bill. Apartment complexes, businesses, and institutional customers also are billed bimonthly.
DSRSD sewer service charges have been included on residential property tax bills for Contra Costa County customers since fiscal year 2004-05 and Alameda County customers since fiscal year 2008-09.
“Billing through the tax rolls ensures that DSRSD receives 100 percent of the amounts the homeowners owe, regardless of the actual amounts the counties collect. The counties charge DSRSD a fee for this billing service,” says DSRSD Interim Financial Services Manager John Archer.
DSRSD bases its rates on the cost of providing services to various types of customers. The District typically evaluates its sewer service rates every five years, with annual inflation adjustments between rate studies.
