No New Electronic Billboard on I-580 For Now

A appeal was not submitted regarding a decision made by the Dublin Planning Commission to reject the 450-square-foot LED billboard.

It looks as though Dublin Hyundai will not be installing an electronic billboard near the westbound Interstate 580 Hopyard Road exit anytime soon.

The 10 days to appeal a decision made by the Dublin Planning Commission to reject the 450-square-foot LED billboard ends today.

According to Economic Development Director Linda Maurer, the city has received word they will not be getting an appeal from the applicant.

Members of the Dublin Planning Commission to reject a proposal that would have replaced signage at the Dublin Hyundai car dealership along I-580.

The dealership, located on the 6000 block of Scarlett Court near the intersection of Dougherty Road and Dublin Boulevard, proposed an LED-powered billboard be erected in place of the current sign, which is also 56 feet tall.

During last week's meeting, commissioners said they were willing to table the matter for further discussion and study.

Guy Houston, former Dublin mayor, attended the meeting representing the proposal’s applicant. Houston said the applicant did not wish to have the matter continued to a later date, leading to the proposal’s rejection.

Planning Commissioner Bill Schaub disagreed the proposal simply upgraded the current sign and said he viewed it as a complete overhaul.  New dimensions and new technological features required more study or an in-depth discussion with commission staff about options, according to Schaub.

The applicant can choose to resubmit the proposal again to the Planning Commission, according to Maurer.
