Letter to the Editor: Jean Josey Wants you to Vote "Yes" on Measure E

Dublin resident and PFC leader wants you to vote yes for Measure E

Submitted by: Jean Josey Dublin Parent/PFC Leader

I am glad that has put Measure E on the ballot for June 5th.  With the legislators in Sacramento trying to balance the budget on the backs of our students, I’m glad that our local district is allowing the citizens of Dublin to fund the modernization of our own schools.

This measure carries a very modest tax burden of $29 per $100k of assessed property value, but it will provide $99 million dollars for building and technology improvements for our schools.

Some of our schools, like , are 40 years old and desperately need to be rebuilt. Other schools, like , are so overcrowded that they’ve had portable classrooms since the day they opened.

It’s time we were able to put new classrooms on all of those campuses. Passing this measure will also ensure that we can ask developers to pay their share for the next elementary school when new homes are built, therefore saving the district millions. Every school in Dublin will benefit from Measure E, and all of the projects are listed right on the school district’s website.

Our high school, in particular, has benefitted greatly from the previous bond measures in Dublin.  If you haven’t driven by recently, its worth a look. We need to make sure the rest of the schools in Dublin are maintained as well to protect our property values and give our students safe, modern facilities if we want them to have the best education possible.

Having a bond measure means that Sacramento can’t touch the money. It all stays right here in Dublin and there is a Bond Oversight Committee made of up Dublin residents who make sure the money is spent exactly as it’s supposed to be – on buildings and technology for our kids, not on salaries, pensions, or other expenses.

I hope all Dublin residents will do like I will on June 5th and vote yes on Measure E.
