Week in Review: Steve Martin in Pleasanton, Tutor Arrested and Disneyland Scam

Some of the stories that made news this past week in Dublin.

Steve Martin in town: The famous comedian, banjo player and actor was spotted by Patch after sending out Tweets mocking the bustle and crime in Pleasanton. What did he mean about 'evil' Pleasanton? Martin was in town to perform at Wente Vineyard Summer Concert Series that evening.

Tutor arrested: Hyungwoo Lee of Dublin and San Ramon was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a juvenile with a stick. Police asking any other victims to come forward.

Sexual assault suspect picture released: Pleasanton Police released a sketch of a man who impersonated a police officer to stop a woman, handcuff her and sexually assault her. Look closely. Do you know this man? If so, contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.

Dublin Canyon Jane Doe update: Pleasanton Police have confirmed that they have sent the evidence relating to the Dublin Canyon Jane Doe case to the FBI's laboratory in Quantico along with seeking help from the FBI and Department of Justice databases. America's Most Wanted told Patch they are still considering doing a feature on the case.

Mayor's Report: Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti chats with Carol Shimizu, the Dublin High School Principal, about the amenities in the new Student Union, football and changes at Dublin High for the start of the new school year. West Nile spreading: A squirrel in Livermore and three crows in the Fremont/Newark area have tested positive for the virus. The Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District announced Thursday via its Twitter account new cases of West Nile virus in the area.
 
Scammed at Disneyland:
A Bay Area family ended up not-so-happy at the "happiest place on earth" when they found out the tickets they bought on Craiglist were worthless. Pleasanton Police confirm the scam and says there have been two other similar, although unrelated, cases.

Actually, Pit Bulls are one of the most well-behaved, well-trained dogs out there, to both theirRead More owners and their familes, if they are trained to be that way. Only drawback to Pits, though, is that they drool a lot, just like any other hunting dog out there. Back in 2009, there was a story in Berkeley about how a Pit Bull saved her owner's life in a house fire, and all anybody could see was that it was a Pit Bull and nothing more. If you train a dog to have a nice and sweet disposition, guess what, the dog will have a nice and sweet disposition. And if you train a dog to fight, maim and kill, guess what it's gonna do? Doesn't matter the breed. I've known Dachshunds who were mean and resorted to biting in an instant as I have known Pit Bulls who were nice--but slobbered a lot. And about the only reason that Pits have the reputation that they do out there is more to do with the viewpoint of the person who believes that all Pits are dangerous to begin with and that perhaps one of their other biases may be a work here, like they hate people whom they believe to be "trash" or "thugs" perhaps, but that's more an indication of their prejudice than their experience with these dogs or any other breed out there. I've known Springer Spaniels out there that started out as sweet dogs with nice dispositions, but as they aged and their brians atrophied into cancer, they turned into vicious dogs and had to be put down. Like people, dogs are individuals, too.
