Vehicle and Grass Fire Contained

Firefighters this afternoon extinguished a vehicle fire that spread to a nearby field just off the North Livermore Avenue Interstate 580 off ramp.

Firefighters have extinguished a vehicle fire that spread to a nearby field on the North Livermore Avenue freeway off ramp.

Emergency crews were dispatched at about 12:35 p.m., officials said.

"We saw a fully involved vehicle fire," said Capt. Brian Sheehan, Alameda County Fire Department.

In addition, the fire made its way to a nearby field of dry grass. Firefighters were able to contain the vegetation fire to an eighth of an acre, Sheehan said.

Rincon Avenue based Engine 97 of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department also assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

The blaze was knocked down by 12:40 p.m., Sheehan said.

The driver of the vehicle told Livermore Patch her car began to "smoke up" when she tried to turn on the car's air conditioning.

"I grabbed my purse and got out of the car," the woman said.

No injuries were reported.
