UPDATE: Altamont Pass Fire Contained

Initially, a couple of ranches were in danger, but firefighters were able to eliminate the structure threat, officials said

Cal Fire has contained a large grass fire that burned 175 acres near the Altamont Pass Tuesday morning, a battalion chief said.

The fire was reported at about 9:45 a.m. at Interstate Highway 580 and Grant Line Road, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford said. It was fully contained by about noon, a dispatcher said.

Initially, a couple of ranches were in danger, but firefighters were able to eliminate the structure threat, Crawford said.

Four Cal Fire engines and six local fire department engines responded, as well as a Cal Fire bulldozer and water tanker, he said.

No injuries were reported.
