Pedestrian Killed on I-680 Still Not Identified

The coroner's office is trying to determine the identity of the victim

The identity of a pedestrian who was hit by three cars early this morning on southbound Interstate 680 still isn't known.

The Alameda County Coroner's Office is working on an identification.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Creel, the victim did not have any identification on him.

"The CHP received a call at about 3:32 a.m. about a pedestrian being struck on the freeway," said Creel. "The man was hit somewhere in the number two to number three lanes of southbound I-680 by three vehicles- two Toyota Corollas and a Ford pick-up."

Creel says traffic on southbound I-680 between I-580 and Stoneridge Drive was diverted briefly through the center divide. The freeway was then shut down completely to clear the collision and removed the victim.

"A unit had passed by that stretch of the freeway about 15 to 20 minutes before the collision was reported and did not see any pedestrian," commented Creel. "We usually get calls if there is someone walking on the freeway and we had not gotten any prior to this collision."

Creel says the man likely came from either Stoneridge Drive or I-580. According to Creel, there were no disabled vehicles in the area to link to the victim.

I seem to get to places in this life without ever having to cross a freeway. I wonder where this fellow was going?

Possibly a transient? There was previously another transient living under the overpass just south of where 680 meets 580. Perhaps someone else took his spot, and was wandering around the freeway, for whatever reason.

Such brilliant theories...leave the investigative work to the experts and reserve your unintelligent statements until authorities can identify a precipitant to this very tragic event. This was a loving, caring father of two; have some decency and reflect on the complicated bereavement that his family is faced with!
