Patrol Car Struck in Hit-And-Run on I-580, CHP Officer Taken to Hospital
The officer was parked blocking another collision when the police car was hit by a car around 1:20 a.m.

The cleanup of debris caused in an accident and an investigation of a subsequent hit-and-run involving a California Highway Patrol car will close two lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore for several hours this morning, a CHP officer said.
CHP responded to a report of an accident on westbound Highway 580,
just east of Airway Boulevard, at about 12:50 a.m., Officer Ralph Caggiano
said.
A truck crashed into sand barrels, knocking the barrels into the two left lanes, Caggiano said. Some diesel fuel leaked out of the truck as well, he said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 1:02 a.m. when the CHP blocked the two left lanes, Caggiano said.
At about 1:20 a.m., another car slammed into a CHP car, causing major damage to the rear of the patrol car, Caggiano said.
The car then fled the scene, he said. Police from Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton, and Alameda County sheriff's deputies were called in to assist in tracking down the runaway car, Caggiano said.
The officer in the car that was struck was transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to Caggiano.
Caggiano said the two left lanes of Highway 580 will remain closed until around 7:30 a.m. for the cleanup of the debris caused by the crash, as well as the investigation of the hit-and-run accident.
