Moraga PD: Brazen Thief Strikes At Church

Moraga police blotter from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, including a blaring pickup truck horn.

From reports by the Moraga police.

Nov. 29

Injury accident. At 8:01 a.m., a two-vehicle accident at Moraga Road and Corliss Drive resulted in  a complaint of pain from one driver, who was transported to the hospital.

Dec. 1

DUI. At 1:53 a.m., officers stopped a Mercedes on Williams Drive at Haven Court for failing to use a turn signal for making a left hand turn. The driver, a 20-year-old, submitted to a Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) test, resulting in a blood alcohol content of 0.06 percent. He was cited for driving under the influence for a driver under age 21 with a BAC of 0.05 percent or more.

Dec. 1

Stolen jewelry. The investigation is ongoing on a report by an Alderbrook Place homeowner of jewelry valued at more than $10,000 stolen from a dresser in the master bedroom. The owner said there was no sign of forced entry.

Dec. 2

Plenty of horn. Officers contacted a reporting party complaining about a pickup truck with its horn sounding continuously parked at the curb on Donald Drive. Officers tried without luck to find a responsible owner. The truck was towed and stored.

Sinning thief. Two purses, unattended in the music room of a Moraga Valley Lane church, were stolen. Both purses contained wallets, cash and credit cards. One had a cell phone. Officers advised the victims to cancel credit cards. "There are no suspects or leads at this time," the report stated. "An area check for any discarded items was negative."

A Jean Valjean moment at the church, perhaps? "But my friend you left so early Surely something slipped your mind You forgot I gave these also Would you leave the best behind? So, Messieurs, you may release him For this man has spoken true I commend you for your duty And God's blessing go with you. But remember this, my brother See in this some higher plan You must use this precious silver To become an honest man By the witness of the martyrs By the Passion and the Blood God has raised you out of darkness I have bought your soul for God!"

Was the church theft "brazen" because you think they are risking the wrath of some invisible deity?

John: That was the idea. I've got to believe some burglars out there would have a conscience strike for plying their craft in church. Onions: Thank you for that. I've got to believe this is the classiest police blotter ever. -- Lance Howland, editor, Lamorinda Patch

If there were actual repercussions from "above" for stuff like this, no church would ever have to lock their doors and the Pope wouldn't need bulletproof glass in public.
