Memorial Fund Created for Family of Fallen BART Officer
Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank.
A memorial fund has been created for the family of BART Police Sgt. Tom "Tommy" Smith, who died after he was accidentally shot by a colleague while conducting a search of a robbery suspect's apartment at 6450 Dougherty Road in Dublin around 2 p.m. on Jan. 21.
According to the BART website, donations to the fund can be made at any Wells Fargo location to account number 5148561086 under the name "Kellie Smith."

Smith's funeral is open to the public and is planned for tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Neighborhood Church of Castro Valley at 20600 John Drive.
Smith, 42, was a 23-year veteran at BART. Smith is survived by his wife, who is K-9 officer with the BART Police Department, and his 6-year-old daughter, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page, a website dedicated to fallen officers.

Smith is the first BART officer to die in the line of duty.
