Livermore Kaiser Doctor from Dublin Killed in Car Accident

Dr. Robert Barnett lost control of his car Friday morning.

A 59-year-old man from Dublin was killed over the weekend in a car accident. Dr. Robert Barnett, who was a pediatrician at the Livermore Kaiser facility, died after he suffered fatal injuries when his 2000 Jaguar convertible drove under a tractor trailer on Sept. 6 at 7:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Adam Shelton said.

According to Shelton, the accident occurred on Interstate 205 near Mountain House Parkway.

Livermore Patch was alerted to the accident when Facebook readers said they had received phone calls from Kaiser Permanente canceling appointments due to Barnett's death.

"He made a hard right turn and went underneath the trailer," Shelton said.

Jorge Ibarra, 49, of Riverside was the driver of the tractor trailer and was uninjured in the accident.

According to Shelton, no charges were filed against Ibarra.

Speeding, drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be the cause of the accident, he said. The case is currently under investigation, pending the coroner's toxicology report.
