All lanes of I-580 are expected to open by 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, said CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.

As of noon, crews were still cleaning up excessive amounts of fuel that spilled into the road after the crash.

All but one lane of westbound Interstate Highway 580 is blocked in Pleasanton this morning because of a crash involving two big-rigs and at least one other vehicle, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash was reported shortly before 9 a.m. on westbound Highway 580 near Hopyard Road, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said. One of the big-rigs overturned and its fuel tank ruptured, spilling between 75 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway, Van Eckhardt said.

Ambulances responded to the scene, but Van Eckhardt did not immediately have information about possible injuries caused by the crash. Caltrans crews are also en route to clean up the fuel spill, according to Van Eckhardt.

He said the far right westbound lane remains open but the other lanes of the highway will likely be closed through the late morning hours. Van Eckhardt said traffic will be backed up since "alternate routes out there are very hard to come by," with motorists only able to take surface streets around the scene of the crash.
