Dublin High Graduate Shot, Killed in Oakland

Jacob Velasquez, 24, was shot on Wednesday night, according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News.


A man was gunned down in East Oakland Wednesday night and the suspect remains at large, police said.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that Jacob Velasquez, 24, was killed Wednesday night after being shot a couple of blocks away from Belle Vista Elementary School.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 11th Avenue and East 24th Street at about 10:35 p.m. on March 5, police said.

When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Mercury News, Velasquez was a Dublin High graduate who played baseball and football and had been working as a security guard at a hospital at the time of his death.

No arrests were made and no suspect information was immediately available. A reward is being offered for information about the homicide.
