Car Falls 500 Feet Down Embankment
A car went down a 500-foot embankment on Sunday, seriously injuring its driver.
The California Highway Patrol said a Hayward woman suffered major injuries on Sunday after her car fell approximately 500 feet down an embankment while driving eastbound on Interstate 580 near the Flynn Road exit.
CHP officer Steve Creel said around 11:20 a.m. Terilyn Carter-Woodard, 19, the driver of a 2000 silver Mustang, veered across four lanes to her right before going down a steep embankment.
Creel said the car overturned on its way down but still landed on its wheels. Carter-Woodard was trapped in the car and was extricated by firefighters.
