Attorney Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Bike Collision to Appear in Court

Spencer Freeman Smith of San Ramon will appear at the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton on Monday at 9 a.m.

More than fourteen months after bicyclist Bo Hu was killed while in the intersection of Dougherty Road and Fall Creek Road, the San Ramon lawyer charged with felony hit-and-run and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter in connection with Hu's death, will be in court for a pretrial appearance.

Spencer Freeman Smith is scheduled to appear at the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton on Monday at 9 a.m., according to Eamon O'Connor of the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Smith was last in court earlier this year to have a "special master" appointed to his case to examine his electronic equipment like laptops and iPads, according to officials at the district attorney's office.

Hu, 57, was a Chinese National believed to have been visiting from abroad when he was killed while in Dublin around 11:30 p.m. on May 15, 2012. Smith practiced law in San Francisco and lived in San Ramon, at the time of the collision.
