13-Year-Old Pedestrian Taken By Life Flight To Children’s Hospital After Being Struck By A Car

The injured boy is a Dublin resident.

A 13-year-old Dublin boy was struck by a vehicle while he was in the crosswalk of Amador Valley Boulevard near Wildwood Drive.

“About 4:20 p.m., the boy was walking southbound in the crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle,” said Dublin Police Lt. Steve Brown. “The boy was possibly blocked from the view of the driver who struck him due to another vehicle stopped in the left turn lane. The driver stopped and stayed at the scene.”

Brown says a witness from a nearby apartment complex came to the boy’s aid.

The boy was taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

“The boy’s parents have been notified,” said Brown.

The collision is being investigated by Dublin Police Services.

He is a friend of my son, and being I work in Oakland at night, I went and saw him at Children's Hospital, he is in good spirits and is banged up. Looks like broken right leg. Was talking and was happy to hear people were concerned for him.

Someone please keep is posted on his condition. Many of us in this neighborhood are praying for him and his family. People need to slow down on Amador and be especially careful when crossing Iron Horse Trail. Heartbreaking.

Ride my bike and cross this intersection at least 3-4 times every week, have almost been wiped out several times within the crosswalk , city needs to install flashing road lights like i have seen in other crosswalks locally(danville in greenbrook area at ironhorse trail) , hopefull young man makes full recovery . Could have been worse.

I understand your feelings and frustrations. Why pray to a God who doesn't stop all bad things from happening? But I have come to understand that it all comes down to individual agency--the power to choose; a gift given to us by a loving God. Can you imagine a world where there was no agency? We'd be nothing but robots. No mistakes=no growth It's all a learning process. Another great gift we receive from God, is the feeling of peace that can come to our hearts and/or minds when things aren't going so well in our lives--and we all have those times whether self-inflected or not! Not only do we need to pray for this young man and his family, but also for the driver who hit him. I don't think the driver woke-up that morning, showered, ate breakfast and then decided to go and hit a pedestrian. My prayers, to a loving Heavenly Father, are for all who suffering.

It is so scary at that intersection! I live right there, and even though they added the signal and lights in the road, most cars do not stop. I have personally stood on that corner for 5 minutes with the lights flashing and had car after car zoom right past. I am so glad that the boy is going to be okay.
Natalie Dyer April 4, 2012 at 02:07 pm
There are flashing lights in the road and nobody pays attention.
Grey April 4, 2012 at 02:43 pm
My car was the car in the left turn lane when this accident occured. I was "stopped" in the left turn lane for a reason. All of the crosswalk lights were flashing as this boy crossed the street. People need to pay more attention as this is a busy intersection with many children crossing. I am so glad he is okay...I was worried. A personal thank you to the woman who came to help from the apt complex. She comforted the boy which allowed me to stay on the phone with 911. She was amazing...

I happened to drive by right after it happened, before the first fire truck arrived...very scary sight! So glad to hear that his injuries were not more serious. I hope that him and his family are getting lots of support from family and friends.
I live down the street from that intersection as well, and it's quite dangerous - people speed down that hill, and if going the speed limit(40mph), they probably dont have enough time to slow down safey if they see the flashing lights. Honestly, it's a residential area, and the speed limit should be 25mph...not 40! :(

Update on his condition. He has several broken bones in his leg, his foot is broken, his hand is broken and several has received stitches in his face. He is in good spirits, as is his nature.
Apera April 4, 2012 at 04:39 pm
I also drove by after the accident and before ems arrived. I stopped to call 911 and help if I could. A woman was down with him and a few others standing. Was very upsetting to see and was very worried. Very glad to hear he is OK and thank you to those who provided updates on his condition, and to the woman who was helping the boy when the accident happened. I drive down this street often to take my dog to the park and am at a loss for words that this person didn't stop when the crosswalk lights were flashing. My heart and good thoughts go out to the and his family.

Past by this horrible accident yesterday and was worried about the well-being of that young man. Glad to hear he's in good spirits but I'm bothered he has to endured such injuries because of negligence. I'm a local delivery driver and there have been many times where I've STOPPED at that crosswalk FLASHED my hazard lights and yet people still zoom past on the next lane. Hopes for a speedy recovery.
John Paink April 5, 2012 at 12:48 am
Umm... the speed limit there is 30mph...Maybe you should pay more attention. It's probably YOU who's speeding

The city needs to change the flashing yellow lights to flashing red In this particular area
Paisley April 5, 2012 at 06:32 pm
I think the problem with these lights is they stay on way too long after the ped has left. This is probably why people ignore them. I've gone to stop for the lights, and the ped is actually down the block. No ped on either side. It happens more times than I can remember.
masa April 5, 2012 at 06:53 pm
That's why they need to change them to red flashing ...the lights are already installed investment is already there....

Hi All, I am one of the boy's relatives. He had 1 cast at each leg and one at the left hand, 2 broken front teeth and 3 stiches at the right chin. He will be on wheelchair for about 6 weeks. He was discharged from the hospital on Monday April 9th and is in a better spirit now since he returned back home.
The boy's family is very thankful to the lady who comforted the boy after the accident and called his mom's cellphone, 'Grey' & other persons who called 911, all the staff and students from Wells Middle school who visited him at the hospital and sent him many 'Get Well' cards and to all these readers who posted their words of prayers and support. May God Bless you all!

How about creating new freeways and wider lane freeways. Freeway parking lots causes the crap air.Read More There shouldn't even be a Bay Area Air Quality Management District. That money should go to expanding highways.
