Two Centenarians, a Founder of the Dublin Kiwanis: Tri-Valley Death Notices

Some of the people with ties to Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon and Danville who passed away recently.

Ione E. Douglass, 105, was born in Livermore to Herman & Sophie Walters on Oct. 29, 1908 and had 4 sisters & 4 brothers. She died Oct. 21.

James Roberts Jr., 74, resident of Livermore a loving father and husband, passed away with his wife at his side Nov. 5. Jim was a Managing Partner for McGuire & Hester Construction in Oakland for more than 30 years and was responsible for building much of the infrastructure in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Alan S. Wiel, 101, passed away in Pleasanton on Nov. 7,  after a three day bout with pneumonia and resulting complications. He attended Galileo High School and for decades was a gunsmith at his own shop (Al's Gun Shop) on Balboa Avenue. Alan was a hunter and also took up competitive trapshooting in the 1970s. He won the state championship a record four times: in 1978 in the veterans class (over 60), in 1984 in the seniors class (over 70), in 1985 in the seniors class, and in 1997 at the age of 85 again in the seniors class.

James Lester Baker, Sr., age 82, passed away on November 11, 
2013 in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was one of the founders of the Young Republicans for Reagan, and was a founder of the Kiwanis Club of Dublin, CA.

Bruce Lanelle Craig, 82, Resident of Dublin Bruce Lanelle Craig of Dublin, CA died surrounded by his family on Thurs., Oct. 24. Bruce graduated from Castlemont High School in 1949 and then went to work for the Oakland Fire Dept., in 1953. His career spanned over 26 years achieving the rank of Acting Battalion Chief and retiring as a Captain in 1979.

Duane Edward Rough Sr., 69, Resident of Vancouver, WA passed on Oct. 27. In 1975 Duane opened up his first flower shop in San Ramon, CA that grew into four thriving stores that he ran with his wife. Duane and his wife lived in Danville, CA for 25 years until he sold his flower shops and moved to Washington.

Dorothy Lucille Kromer85, Resident of San Ramon peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 9.
