Community Update

It concerns me that at least 2/3rds of the times I see a Dublin PD car, it is parked with other Dublin PD cars doing nothing. Officers are not patrolling, not pulling over a driver, not conducting an investigation, not "community policing" (i.e. talking to citizens), but sitting there "shooting the s&%t" with fellow officers.

I see them most frequently behind the hedges at the 7-Eleven at Silvergate Dr. and San Ramon Rd. and behind the landscaping next to the freeway behind the new Target off of Fallon Rd. There are always multiple cars and several officers leaning against their vehicles or chatting through windows. If they are doing this as a crime deterrent, they need to pick different, more visible spots. To the casual observer, they seem to be hiding. The only things they seem to be protecting and serving are their backsides and one-liners with their co-workers.

I understand there is a great deal of paperwork that comes with being a cop. I am related to one and have several friends who are in law enforcement. This might be a viable excuse if it looked like they were typing on their computer or had a pen in their hand. But they aren't and don't. The only thing in their hands is coffee or the current popular energy drink.

To the police: Please do your job or at least make it look like you are doing your job. Because of what you do, you are in the spotlight. People pay attention to you. When I see you, I don't want to feel jealous because you are making $100K for doing nothing or be concerned because you aren't patrolling the neighborhoods we live in. When I see you, I want to feel safe and satisfied that my taxes are being used appropriately.
