A Dublin boy who has been battling a rare brain tumor called gliomatosis cerebri since the fall of 2012 died on Saturday morning.

Surrounded by his family, Sirous Sadaghiani, who had been fighting the fight of his life for almost a year, slipped away in the early morning hours on Sept. 6.

As of Aug. 21, the cancer he had been so valiantly fighting had returned and was expanding into Sirous' brain, causing his condition to deteriorate. At that time, he was sleeping more and more and his life expectancy was four to eight weeks.

Sirous, and his twin sister, Sima, had celebrated their ninth birthdays in May. Sirous had been a third grader at John Green Elementary when he was diagnosed with the rare brain tumor.
