Freebies for March: Family Fun Time

From arts and crafts to playing Angry Birds, there's plenty of free options for the family in March.

Who doesn’t love a freebie that keeps on giving?

In March, as a part of “Kids Read” in San Ramon and Danville, stop by any library in either city to get your child’s free copy of “Dream Big Little Pig”, written by Bay Area figure skating gold medalist and Tri-Valley resident, Kristi Yamaguchi.

Want to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday? Head to the  on Thursday, March 1 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. with “Science for Seuss.”

On Saturday, March 3, head to  in San Ramon or Dublin to make your very own No. 20 speedy race car. This is a great parent and child project for the younger set or independent activity for older children. This free workshop takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, but get there early to ensure they still have projects available.

Also n March 3 at  in Walnut Creek, your budding artist can create a decorative and sparkly mirror craft. A wild animal headband is the weekly craft for kids on Saturday, March 10. Free craft activities take place each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For one more option on Saturday you can head to the  and take part in just one of the 50 crafts planned at Alameda County libraries in the month of March. Join local artist Marion Coleman and create a paper quilt square as a family. This event takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and after quilt squares are made they will be assembled and displayed for all to enjoy.

On March 10, your budding carpenter and star athlete can head to  in Dublin to make a carnival hoops game. Visit here to sign up ahead of time.

On any Tuesday, head to the  in San Ramon for family story time and a craft. Grab a quick dinner after work and join the reading adventures from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Children can even wear pajamas to this exciting evening.

Who doesn’t love Angry Birds? If your teen or older child is a fan, then have him or her bring over a handheld device to the  on March 10 at 1:30 p.m. for some gaming fun. Then, your child can use a gigantic slingshot to make angry birds and pigs fly. This is sure to be a hit with all Angry Bird fans.
