East Bay SPCA in Dublin Hoping for an Increase in Holiday Adoptions

Furry, four-legged friends need no wrapping.

The Dublin SPCA has about 150 animals in need of a good home.

Pet adoptions rates have not increased this holiday season, so the non-profit agency is running an adoption incentive program called “Home for the Holidays.”

Shelter Supervisor, Shaunna Ward said the program, which runs through Dec. 30, offers Pet Food Express gift cards to the first 250 adoptions. The program also reduces the adoption fees for some of the animals that are more difficult to adopt due to their age or health issues.

Ward said people who are considering adopting a pet for the holidays need to understand the commitment that comes with adoption.

“Think about it and don’t be compulsive. Make sure everyone in the family is ready for the commitment,” stated Ward.

Ward explained the Dublin SPCA is always accepting donations and a current wish list can be found on their website.

They also have a holiday giving tree inside the shelter that allows visitors to pick an ornament off the tree and provide the donation requested on the ornament to the shelter.

The shelter, which is located at 4651 Gleason Drive in Dublin, is home to many types of animals. They have cats, dogs and bunnies of all ages and breeds.

At the shelter now is a dog named Bruno, who is a 9-year old male lab mix. Despite his sweet disposition and being able to complete many commands such as sitting, laying and shaking, he has not yet been adopted since his arrival in October.

Ward hopes Bruno will be one of the lucky ones adopted as a pet this holiday season.
