Week In Review: Cannonballs, Jobs and Batmobiles

Here are some of the stories that made news this past week in Dublin

Cannonball forum: About 50 residents attended a forum Saturday to discuss an incident where a wayward cannonball struck a house and a minivan earlier this month. Members of law enforcement and the television show, Mythbusters, attended to discuss the Dec. 6 incident. The show's producers apologized for the mishap and said safety remains a top priority for them.

Holiday food bank program: Officials at a Dublin food bank say they will help a record number of families this holiday season. The Children's Emergency Food Bank is expected to help more than 100 families. Food baskets were handed out this weekend at a local church.

Unemployment rate drops: The jobless rate in the East Bay fell by a half percentage point from October to November, dipping to 9.5 percent. Alameda and Contra Costa counties added 4,400 jobs to the payroll. In Dublin, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.8 percent from 6.1 percent.

Holiday spirit: Students at Dougherty Elementary School collected more than 200 holiday gifts to help other children. The pupils loaded the presents into vans on Thursday to be delivered to an elementary school in Concord. The toy drive began before Thanksgiving.

Batmobile for sale: A car that resemembles the Batmobile is on sale at a Dublin auto dealership. Anthony Bettencourt III of Pleasanton has put the automobile up for sale at Moda Auto Lounge. The asking price is $60,000 and the replica only has 100 miles on it.
