Week In Review: Movies, Messages and Memories

Some of the stories that made news this past week in Dublin

Movie Hunger: A dozen fans of "The Hunger Games" lined up Thursday morning at the Hacienda Crossings 20 cineplex to be among the first to grab seats for the midnight showing of the new movie. Several Amador Valley High students in line said their parents had given them permission to miss school for the premiere. Everyone in line said they had read at least one of the three books in the series. The film debuted at 11 of the complex's theaters.

Boxing Champ's Message: Boxing champion Andre Ward of Hayward spoke to about 100 inmates at Santa Rita Jail on Wednesday. Ward was the keynote speaker at a graduation ceremony for inmates who have completed their GED requirements as well as programs in anger management and drug and alcohol recovery.

Food Lab Property: The City Council on Tuesday approved a consultant services agreement for their project with the Alameda County Fire Department for the old National Food Lab site on Clark Avenue. Mayor Tim Sbranti said city officials hope to move the fire department as well as city police services into the now-vacant building.
