The American Red Cross is in particular need for donors Friday and Saturday at the Pleasanton Blood Donation Center (5556-B Springdale Avenue), which is located in the JC Penney Plaza near the Stoneridge Mall.
The center will be open from 7:30a.m. to 3p.m. on both days. Donors will need to go to the center to make an appointment or be taken as a walk-in for the first available timeslot.
All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a .
The promotion, which runs through August, is designed to encourage people to donate blood during a time that Red Cross officials call challenging. Many regular blood donors are away on vacation or busy with other summer plans, but the demand for blood often grows because of increased road and travel-related injuries, officials said.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with parental consent, 110 pounds and in generally good health.
