  • Where/When:
    Thursday at 4 p.m. at Towne Center Books in Pleasanton
    Why Go:
    Take the kids to a free, fun, interactive author event at which they will be treated to a reading of the new picture book Big Bouffant and some crazy hairstyling. This event isn't just for girls — boys will have fun, too.
    Price: Free

  • Where/When: Opening night is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Theatre in Danville.
    Why Go: Treat the family to this timeless story of the world's most famous candy man in the Danville Children's Music Theater's adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The production opens Friday and runs through April 2.

  • Where/When:
    Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore.
    Why Go:
    The whole family will love watching this award-winning Chinese group perform traditional dance and amazing acrobatics. Hurry — tickets are going fast.

  • Where/When:
    Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dublin Library
    Why Go:
    Teens can get creative during this free library event at which they'll make colorful wallets out of duct tape. All materials will be provided.

  • Where/When:
    Sunday at 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville
    Why Go:
    Girls will celebrate the 25th birthday of American Girl at this fashion show hosted by Golden View Elementary in San Ramon. Learn how clothing has changed over the years to reflect history, culture and girls' individual styles.
    Price:
