Dublin Rotary Honors Community Super Stars

The annual event honors personnel from the City of Dublin's police, fire and non-emergency staff, as well as individuals in the Dublin Unified School District.

Super stars from throughout the community came together Tuesday afternoon to be honored by the Dublin Rotary

The event is held annually to honor personnel from the City of Dublin's police, fire and non-emergency staff, as well as individuals in the .

Jazz Band provided musical entertainment (see video).

Mayor Tim Sbranti said that the honorees were committed to bettering the city and school district.

"When it comes down to it, it's the people day in and day out who do the work that we want to honor," he said.

Three city employees and three district employees were honored.

"They represent why Dublin Unified School District is successful and we're very proud of them," said Superintendent Stephen Hanke.

Congratulations to the following super star winners from the City of Dublin:

  • Nancy Melanson, the Dublin Police Services sheriff technician. She is in charge of the vehicle fleet, fingerprinting, car-seat installation, vehicle abatement and frequently volunteers at city and police events.
  • Assistant Chief Rob Schnepp, a special operations chief for the Alameda County Fire Department. Under his leadership Alameda County Fire's Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Team has achieved Type 1 status. There are only 15 such teams in the state.
  • Frank Navarro, senior civil engineer for the City of Dublin. He recently worked with the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District to develop and design the entry to the new parking structure for the West-Dublin Pleasanton BART station on Golden Gate Drive.

Congratulations to the following super star winners from the DUSD:

  • Evelyn Olivera, who works in the business services department for accounts payable. According to her co-workers, Olivera has a "strong sense of ethics" and is constantly learning. She's a mentor and also a team player.
  • Alan Oliveira, a math and science teacher at . The school staff said he creates challenging lessons for his students and shows them that hard work and motivation make a difference. Oliveira coaches various sports teams at the school and is the adviser for the afterschool science club. He always shows a willingness to help and is involved in the Computers at Home Program, which provides used computers to students for home use.
  • Diane Manske, director of human resources for the district. Staff said that she does her job with grace and treats all employees with honor and dignity. Manske works hard to bring the best teachers and staff to the district.
