Celebrate Earth Day With Films, Wine and Crafts

Here are some things to do for Earth Day in Dublin and surrounding cities.

Celebrate the 41st anniversary of Earth Day, which started in 1970, with a week of activities in Pleasanton and surrounding cities. Spend a day creating eco-friendly arts and crafts, learn more about the planet you live on and enjoy organic wine.

Earth Day is Friday, April 22.

Seniors can enjoy a movie that focuses on creatures under the sea. Brought to you by the same people who did Earth, this movie for the young at heart ties into the Earth Day theme and is free for seniors.

Catch a viewing of Dirt! The Movie, a documentary about the soil beneath our feet. The movie, narrated by Jaime Lee Curtis, was an official nominee for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

Sustainable Danville Area is celebrating its first birthday and Earth Day with a wine tasting at the VINE at Bridges. The cost is $15 per person and will include a special organic, sustainable wine flight. The event is open to all and tickets can be purchased online.

Catch a screening of the movie Tapped at the Pleasanton Library to celebrate Earth Day.

Multiple activities will be hosted throughout the day starting with Mary Mello, a local youth art instructor, offering three eco-friendly crafts for children age 3 and up from 10 a.m. to noon. Next, there will be a Contemporary British Artist Documentary screening inside the Village Theatre at 1:30 pm. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dragonfly Design studios will assist participants in making  resin ring jewelry. Bring materials to fill a bottle cap, no larger than a quarter. A $5 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Open Space is offering a whole day of activities to celebrate Earth Day. The event will feature a morning trail project in Shell Ridge Open Space, a community picnic at noon at Hanna Grove, environmental activities for children at Howe Homestead at 3 p.m. and a campfire program at Sugarloaf Open Space at 7 p.m.
