Patrons who visited the Dublin branch of the United States Post Office today hoping to ship last minute gifts were greeted with a full parking lot and a line as long as the lobby.
Dubbed the “busiest shipping day of the year” by many, the Dublin Post Office, located at 6973 Village Parkway in Dublin, was full of harried customers -- most on their lunch breaks -- carrying stacks of boxes hoping to get their shipments in the mail in order to have gifts arrive by Christmas.
Joe Wilkerson, who lives in Vacaville and works in Dublin, spent his lunch hour waiting in line to ship gifts to his god daughter in West Hills, California. He guessed he would be in line his “whole lunch hour, about 30 minutes” in order to get the packages in the mail.

Manteca resident Mary Born, who also works in Dublin, commented she always uses the Dublin Post Office but “should have gotten the packages out Saturday.” Born had gifts that need to make their way to Minnesota and Maryland before Christmas morning.
Two postal service employees staffed the front desk helping patrons and many other employees were on hand working in the back, shuffling the steady influx of boxes.

The postal employees would not comment about whether they have provided extra staffing for the holiday shipping surge or how many packages they expect to have come through their branch today. The national call center for the United Sates Postal Service also refused to comment.
Dublin Police Department Lieutenant Herb Walters stated they have extra deputies on patrol tonight for their holiday crime suppression team. They will be providing extra patrol in the area of the Dublin Post Office during the mailing rush.
