The Latest Thread in Beauty

A Dublin salon is introducing the community to threading and other natural and organic beauty trends.

The trend gaining popularity in shaping eyebrows and removing unwanted facial hair isn't just for celebrities; it's happening right here in Dublin. Threads Beauty Bar, located on Dublin Boulevard, is exposing Tri-Valley residents to a very small piece of thread that's making a big difference in the world of beauty.

Owners Mitesh and Chetna Parikh opened the store three years ago, after outgrowing another location in the area. Chetna had seen threading in Southern California and wanted to bring the trend to the Tri-Valley. "Threading is for everyone," she said.

So, just what is threading?  It's an ancient art of facial hair removal that has been practiced for centuries in India and others parts of the world. The process involves a piece of thread, made of 100% cotton, being used to lift unwanted hair straight from the root.  The thread used at the salon is all imported from India.

"People turn to threading instead of waxing, because waxing isn't for everyone, especially for people who have sensitive skin.  We see all ages here at the salon, from 10-year-olds to seniors, and even male clients," said Chetna Parikh.

And don't let the salon's name fool you, because the list of services includes more than just threading. The salon also offers services such as waxing, hair, nails, facials, spray tans and henna tattoos, all of which involve the use of natural, organic products.

"We follow a pure philosophy and use pure products. Although we both grew up in the Bay Area, we want to share our Indian culture which believes in natural and organic products for beauty regime," said Mitesh Parikh.

The couple said they do a great deal of research when looking for products and services to offer their clients.  "We only use options that are healthy for the client and healthy for the staff."

And that research seems to be paying off, as the salon sees customers from all over the Tri-Valley and often caters to many customers at a time. "The service is great and Threads offers something really unique instead of the typical eyebrow wax," said Cathy Hand, who drives twice a month from Castro Valley to the salon.

Threads Beauty Bar welcomes appointments and walk-ins and has a large selection of jewelry available for purchase.
