PS Eatery Opening Soon on Park Street

Owner David Le said he expects to open the restaurant in the next three weeks.

A new restaurant specializing in "New American" cuisine is expected to open soon on Park Street.

PS Eatery, which stands for Park Street Eatery, is replacing the building where Malay Asian Express once occupied at 1363 Park St. It is slated to open in the next three weeks according to owner David Le.

Le said he wants to focus on specializing in several specific items like pulled pork sandwiches and mac and cheese.

He also wants to focus on being environmentally friendly.

"We're trying to stay green," he said.

The restaurant showcases restored and reused furniture and decor. For instance, some of the light fixtures are made from metal rings taken off a wine barrel.

The industrial style is balanced well with greenery such as air plants and moss.

Le, who formerly owned a garden store in Oakland, lets his green thumb shine through with the plant features. Walking into the restaurant, patrons will find their eyes drawn to the glass windows on the wood-lined walls containing what appears to be terrariums and scenes from nature.

Diners can also expect to enjoy a bar serving beer and wine on tap. Le said he chose to do so because it was more environmentally friendly.

"Twenty-six bottles of wine equal about one keg of wine," he said.

The garden store that Le operated in Oakland was quite interesting. Many cool reuses of material. If he continues with the same level of creativity this should be a very promising restaurant.

If you're ever in Chicago, the Chicago Diner on north Halsted is a great place for vegan. Short walk east from Wrigley.

There are vegan and vegetarian options, and vegetarian specialties can be made vegan, just ask.

When I think of vegan and/or vegetarian dishes, I don't think of pulled pork -- the two don't go well together.

I see they are running an ad in the Alameda Sun today saying they are now open. They have a Facebook presence - facebook.com/pseatery
