Indoor Shooting Range, Gun Store Planned for Dublin

A gun store and shooting range that markets itself as the "largest firearms dealer in Northern California" has applied to open new store in Dublin.

According to city records, William and Travis Morgan, owners of "Guns, Fishing, and Other Stuff"  in Vacaville, filed a Minor Use Permit in December 2013 with the City of Dublin for an "Indoor Recreational Facility (indoor shooting range)" at 6705 Amador Plaza Road.

City spokesperson Jacqui Diaz says the application, which only addresses parking for the store, will go before the Planning Commission on Feb. 11.

"The Community Development Director has referred the application to the Planning Commission for consideration," Diaz says. "They will be considering only the parking standard for the consideration of the Indoor Shooting Range, not the use itself."

The Vacaville location sells guns, ammunition, hunting and fishing gear and offers gun safety and hunting education courses for gun enthusiasts.

Store Manager Kevin Yost says the store and 12 lane range will likely be open by July 1.

The area was chosen because of this geographic/region area not having such resources as an indoor shooting range, a resource where courses such a firearm safety, courses for new firearm owners, hunters education, and other courses focused on learning responsible firearm ownership can be made available. We have already been contacted by several local groups wanting to take advantage of the range and courses.

In addition to this, an extensive fishing department where fishing tackle and gear for all the local fisheries will be available, along with seminars by many of the local professional fisherman, guides, and charter captains. Then taking into consideration this geographic region really had no source to hunting firearms, sportshooting firearms, ammunition for both hunters, safes for home security and recreational shooters, hunting accessories such as decoys, waders, field supplies, reloading supplies, apparel and much more.

The overall focus of our stores will be continue to provide a service to recreational shooters, hunters, and all sportsman in general.

The store would be the first of its kind in the area. There are public shooting ranges in Castro Valley, San Leandro and Livermore.
